According to the World Health Organization, at least one in eight is affected by mental health issues.
This year’s #WorldMentalHealthDay theme is: “Make mental health & well-being for all a global priority”. Especially after the pandemic, it seems that mental health statistics are at an all-time high.
What can we do?
Everyday life can get really busy. Before you know you are caught up in the hustle and bustle of Halloween, Black Friday, Christmas etc. It’s so easy to forget to take breaks and switch off a little to focus on yourself
This #WorldMentalHealthDay We have 5 simple ways to create that calm for yourself.
1. There is no need to think big
Whatever activities you enjoy most, whether gardening or making a delicious meal, is a great way to unwind. You don’t need to conquer the world every day. Sometimes, taking time out to enjoy a hobby can be much more rewarding and gratifying than working those extra hours to impress your employer.
2. Get out of your head
Take some time out to spend with the people you care about. Quality time with friends or family, and airing any concerns is great ways to get an alternative perspective on a situation or things that are on your mind. Finding people to confide in, share with and be grateful for makes all the difference.
3. Get some fresh air
Get into your garden! It’s no secret being outdoors is linked to feeling more positive. Fresh air can help clear your mind and help you feel more robust for the day ahead. Clear the remains of summer and add small lights to keep the darker evenings bright. You don’t need to sit in the dark!
4. Set clear boundaries
As many of us continue to work from home, it’s easy for work to creep into our downtime.
Having a consistent work schedule or creating something that signifies the end of the day will help to switch off.
5. Make time for yourself
Whether that’s taking the time to enjoy a warm cup of tea on a cosy lounge setting or a candlelit bubble bath, treating yourself to simple pleasures could make all the difference.
