If you wanted to place this in a tree I would be careful on which branches you hang them from as it might bend and break them, as any breakages due to this will not be covered under warranty.
As you are able to USB charge them if needed and put them in powersaving mode, it wouldn't matter too much about the amount of sun as you can top up with USB, however if you were puirely relying on the sun then I would not place it somewhere heavily shaded.
