The lights will come on automatically when is dark and has these modes:

Mode A: Light is set to remain at low brightness

Mode B: Light is set to remain at low brightness until motion is detected which activates mid brightness for up to 25 seconds

Mode C: Light is only set to activate when motion is detected

Answer:

The light will be at a dim brightness from dusk till dawn or the batteries run out, whatever happens, sooner. It will get brighter when someone approaches. The sensor will work automatically after dark. We would recommend leaving the light to charge for 3-5 days.

If I put this light inside an open porch doorway would it still charge during the day or does the top part need to be fully exposed to daylight for it to charge properly? I have the Avon already which give off a lot of light but they are fully exposed for charging. Would like to put the Warwick inside an open porch but I'm worried that the ceiling above it will stop the charge

It won't be able to charge. Please make sure that the panel is exposed in direct daylight.
