Customer Reviews - Shield Twin Solar PIR Light
I wanted something that would light my shed after dark, and with a motion sensor so it would light automatically when I enter the shed then switch off after a short time. A quick phone call to Solar Centre led them to send some recommendations for sensor lights which can be wired so the light is inside but the solar panel is outside. The light fits the need perfectly, lights the entire shed, and activates when I enter. It lights the whole space, but the directional lights allowed me to focus specifically on the shelving with one light and the wider space with the other. Excellent service and product, like all my dealings with the Solar Centre.

0 | 0 I bought this light to light up a dark area under overhead decking. I placed the solar panel in full sun, but the cable allowed me to put the lights in the dark area. The tilting point of panel in an earlier review is valid. But regardless I was genuinely amazed as one night, I decided to paint a wall in this dark area. It meant the lights had to remain on for almost 2hrs non stop. Amazing to be quite frank. In normal circumstances they do then of course work perfectly!

1 | 0 I had purchased two these a few years ago, so I knew what to expect. An issue was quickly responded to and resolved, so great customer service. I have just recently purchased two more of these lights, and my comments are: there have been changes internally, which hopefully means longer usage. Unfortunately for me, the mounting bracket for the solar panel has been changed, which means more holes to drill in the wall, and It now doesn't allow as much tilting movement of the solar panel as the previous models (another reviewer made a similar comment). I do appreciate product improvements, but the designers need to consider the practical use of these product changes. However, overall, I consider a 5 star rating is warranted. I hope the product longevity justifies that rating.

1 | 0 Had an issue with the light as the two lamps did not rotate horizontally as per the item description.. As I wanted to put it on the corner of the building to illuminate the front and side of the house this was a problem. Customer services provided a replacement which solved the problem. I would have given 5 stars but the fixing arrangement for the solar panel is less than ideal and not as described in the instructions. If you try to mount it on a vertical surface such as a wall the panel cannot be tilted back enough to achieve the optimum angle to the sun. I had to space it off the wall using a 6 inch angle bracket so I could tilt the panel to the sun. The mounting arrangement shown in the instructions looks much better.

Easily installed 2 weeks ago and pleased with light output and brightness., Using lowest settings on light and time as north facing and solar panel,pointed to sky in general direction of south. Will only have sunlight fall on it in May to July as it will catch the setting sun then when i redirect it towards west. Seems to be good quality. If it struggles in dullest winter days shall switch off on days we don't return home in dark so it can build up battery as passers bye set it off and we are on a dog walking route. Would recommend so far.

1 | 1 Experience marred by having to go through hoops to get refund code when first set of lights arrived and did not work. 2 months on, new unit arrived installed and perfect for our situation. One problem was the tiny buttons to adjust the brightness and duration which I could not adjust so may lose charge more quickly.

0 | 0 I live in old cottage tucked away up a path away from the lights of the road and bought this to illuminate the path and gate where there is no power source. The brightness was a pleasant surprise with the swivel facility of the lights make it very easy to light up both the areas required. The only slight downside was that there was very limited fixing details butwith common sense it was easy to fix.

What we don't advise is purchasing products from different suppliers as they wont be compatible. Could be faulty, and may damage the light that would void your warranty

0 | 1 My third purchase of one of these as I have been so pleased with the two I already have. So bright and I don't think it has ever not worked through the winter. This purchase was actually due to the accidental damage to one we have had for a few years now and the only reason I didn't give a full five stars is that this is slightly different to my other two. The Solar panel attaches the wall with 4 screws and not 2, and the cable from the solar panel to the light was a good 5ft shorter. That was annoying this time as I had to re position the panel closer to the light (which was on the other side of the shed and the cable went through the inside of the shed) which meant it won't get quite as much sun as it did before. I'm confident it won't effect the performance and it is still a great light.

0 | 0 I purchased this twin PIR Solar light in 2021 to watch over a dark alley beside my home. It lights up both sides of my high gate as someone approaches. I was able to fit the panel in a good South facing location on the side of the property, (my side). I was dubious if it would work all through the British winter. Well I can say it has been fantastic, worked all winter long without missing a beat or failing even when several people triggered it or the neighbour triggered it every time he fed his cat at night and early morning. Definitely recommend. Also, arrived quickly and very well packed.

I have previously bought cheap lights from a supermarket and they only lasted 1 year., the ones I have previously bought from The Solar Centre are 0ver 6 years old and still going strong. 3 | 0 This is an excellent solar light, it's very easy to install and adjust for the time the light operates, when the sensor starts and stops working and the sensing area. One thing to note, the deliver is ASAP by default, £4.99, and if you use Google or PayPal there isn't an option to switch to the advertised free delivery. On a good note, I explained this over the phone afterwards and was offered a refund on the delivery straight away, so very pleased.

1 | 0 First I would like to say. I Emailed saying that there was a small issue that I had with the light, but I was quite happy. and that I did not want to send it back. Within a hour I received a message saying that they were sending me a replacement and to keep the one I had. They said that it was not up to there standards and not good enough for me ether. I have the original to use, and now are using the new one. I use the light in the garden to see wild life in the night.. and I agree with the positive comments in the revues Plus 10 stars if it were possible for customer service. Thankyou so much.

3 | 0 Lovely piece of equipment. Does a very good job of lighting up the garden. I know exactly where the dog is now!! I have only one little whinge, I am 84 and somewhat Arthritic. I find the little screw that holds the unit onto the backing plate very awkward to handle, I usually use a little grease to hold small screws, but this screw requires more dexterity than my old fingers are capable of. I now use a piece of rubber tube to help me handle it.

Also wish it had AA removable batteries that I could charge in the house as at this time of year the solar panel is doing its best but Orkney is a long way north and we have had a week of very low light levels all day due to storms.

Only issue I do get is intermittent nights where it does not come on and the next night it does - even if the amount of light in the days has been the same. Have adjusted the timer to minimum but it appears to be an intermittent fault as mentioned. That said it is worth four stars from me, and would have been a five had mine not been tempramental...

Which I did in my kitchen and everything in the room disappeared in a vaporising white light. Exceptional power form these, quite astonishing. 1 | 1 Very impressive security lamp - almost 5 stars, but I take off half a star for 2 reasons:- 1 - AUTO/OFF switch far too noticeable, so easy for an intruder to de-activate the lamp. 2 - If you screw the base too tightly on a 'very slightly uneven' brick wall (as I did), you may need to loosen the fixing screws slightly to allow the spring loaded locating pin to sit fully home. But it's ALMOST excellent, and well worth the money.

It has excellent response time and adjustability to suit any setting and is multi directional. 3 | 0 I bought this to replace a cumbersome mains powered light above the garage door. With it's wide angle PIR and twin lamps, it comes on whether we approach from the house or the garden side. The lamp unit and the solar panel were easy to install and adjust, and you can set the timing for how long you want to lights to stay on. I know from experience with another Solar Centre security lamp, that the huge solar panel will still work right throughout winter.

So impressed I ordered another set for bottom half garden, even ordered some for my mother in laws garden. Would of been good if lights swivled she said, but happy neither less. Am away to order some fairy lights and bulb lights for fence and rear porch veranda. So glad I stumbled on these guys. 1 | 0 I wanted one with two fairly independent lights to focus in different directions and angles, which this does pretty well. The output from each lamp is very good. I would have given 5 stars had the build felt a bit more robust, but mine is under cover. Initially the adjustments to lux and time didn't seem to be doing anything but it seemed to need a day/night cycle to sort itself out.

0 | 0 Received this light very promptly and fitted it a few days ago, since then we have not had much sun since but it already had some charge and it is working well. It picks me up from quite a distance when I walk down my path in the back garden and I am extremely pleased with it. I have mounted it on the corner of the garage and so it picks me up either way. 0 | 0 So pleased with this solar light. Purchased to fit on the corner of a shed to light up our drive and also the path to the front door. The twin lamps were quite stiff to move into the desired positions but just required a bit more pressure than I was giving. There was even some charge in the lamps when we unpacked the light which made it easier work out where to fix it. The solar panel has a good long lead to the lamp and the panel was also easy to fix up. It is not the prettiest looking but does the job it is intended for very well. Would definitely reccomend.

0 | 0 Purchased the Shield Twin Solar PIR to light the front driveway. It arrived very promptly and in good condition. I installed it on the front wall of the bungalow using the provided fixings. The instruction were very clear and it was an easy job, as long as you have the correct tools. After fully charging the unit, as described in the accompanying leaflet I switched the unit on and was delighted with the amount of light it gave off.Up to this point everything was absolutely what I had expected. However as soon as it dropped dark, I noticed the light coming on almost continually, so I adjusted the sensor to its lowest position but this made very little difference. The website stated that the sensor would work up to 10m. but vehicles passing on the opposite side of the road were triggering it a distance in excess of the 10m. and that was with the sensor pointing fully down. Unlike many units it doesn't have a sensitivity adjustment and only limited manual adjustment. After speaking to Solar Centre I was advised to put black insulating tape over part of the sensor, not the best solution but it has reduced the number of activations.

I would say that I am extremely pleased witht the light both in terms of the amount of light emitted, and the ease of installation. 0 | 0 I bought one of these to light the shed and gate at the end of my garden. It arrived exactly when it was meant to, and it was quick and easy to install. The light is sufficiently bright for my needs, the sensor works very well and it is east to adjust. The lights are adjustable in two dimensions, so can be aimed to light a surprisingly wide area. I would recommend buying some cable clips to secure the cable that runs from the solar panel to the light. The light is well made from robust plastic and seems to be very well weather sealed. The solar panel is quite small and I was concerned that in winter in the UK it would struggle to recharge the battery. But so far (about 2 weeks in early November in Scotland) it has managed to keep it charged. I would recommend this product.

They access house using a keysafe at the rear door, I had been looking for an alternative to hiring an electrician to mains wire a security light to illuminate the keysafe when I came across this product. 0 | 0 It provides a good light across the width of a double garage. The unit feels quite solid and well made. The separate PV panel is a good weight so at the moment I have left it sitting on the garage roof without further fastening. Installation was easy. No problem with setting the trigger brightness level or on duration. Only downside is there's no easy way of securing the cable from the PV panel to the light . I don't want to drive staples in to the garage roof. However the separate PV panel is essential as the light is fitted on the north side of the house and I need to have the PV panel facing south. I don't think there's an easy answer to the cable problem. I rang the solarcentre with a support question and they phoned me back very quickly with an answer so customer support appears to be good. The only thing I can't vouch for at the moment is whether the PV panel delivers enough charge to the battery in winter as I've only had the unit for a couple of days but everything is looking good at the moment.

0 | 0 I am very pleased with this light. For me, it was a cheaper alternative to hardwiring a security light to electricity, and it works just as well without continuing to cost money! I had no trouble fixing it to the wall, or attaching the light to the back plate (I am a 60 year old woman). It is a bright light, with good coverage. My only very slight frustration is that the motion sensor doesn't quite give a wide enough angle for my liking, given that it needs to pick up movement from two directions. Delivery was excellent - fast, free, convenient, and absolutely no hassle whatsoever. I am very happy to recommend this product, and will be buying from this company again. Thank you.

1 | 0 I bought one unit just after Christmas and installed it. The screws which came with the unit were inappropriate as the bracket for the solar panel has quite large holes. The screws supplied slipped through the holes. So I used my own. As others have mentioned, the unit is not as simple as it should be to locate on the backplate once the backplate is attached to the wall. My assessment of the difficulty is that as you tighten the screws in the backplate to give a firm grip on the wall, the backplate distorts slightly. In the fully firm position the unit would not locate at all. I could achieve top or bottom but not both. I loosened the backplate screws slightly and was able to achieve an acceptable location of the unit but the top clip cannot be located into the unit. It is held in place by the bottom hand tightened screw. This still gives a reasonably firm location on the base plate. The operation of the light is good, very sensitive to movement and adjustable for time and lux. This is not a cheap unit but I think we are all familiar with the ultra cheap solar units which fail over very short periods of time. I am very happy with the operation and feel that it will probably give good service over a number of years. On that basis I bought a second unit and the same comments apply as for the first one. I just cannot get the top clip to locate so I have both units located only by the bottom knurl screw. Both seem secure enough. However, this time more appropriate screws were supplied for the solar panel bracket. A real plus for these units is the separate charging panel and the ability (in my case) of locating them on a south facing wall. As I said, not cheap but my philosophy in life is always that you get what you pay for and I think these are good units which should perform properly well into the future. Also, if it were possible, it would be good if the motion sensor could be adjusted vertically as well as horizontally. My second unit is located on the back of my drive about 20 feet from the road and I do get regular false triggers as it picks up the occasional passing car. I could cut out these if there was vertical adjustment. A good unit which does the job but I have no experience of customer service as I have not had to use them.

If the bricks are not absolutely flush where you put the light it can be very time consuming getting the unit located on the backplate and the sprung loaded latch to locate. Not the best design in the world. But great now it's up and will probably buy another.

0 | 0 Recent purchase of above. Upon receipt I noticed the some damage to the package. Upon opening I discovered that one of the lights was broken and was detached from the main unit. I contacted SolarCentre with photos of the damage and I was promised a replacement, which I have now received and is in perfect condition. The packaging of the replacement was far more robust than the original. The prompt replacement is to be commended. As yet I have not installed the light outside as I am in the process of moving house, tests with it indoors appear to be very good. I will be pleased to give another review when it has been installed outside the new property

The unit is really well sealed and looks as though it will stand the test of time. The light is bright and you can adjust the time and ambient light level which it comes on at. 0 | 0 Having tried several different external solar lights we have to say that the shield twin lights are without doubt the best so far. The light is bright and powerful. In fact the most powerful solar lights we've tried. The only small concern we have is that we live in North Wales where it has been known to rain from time to time, and the surround of the solar panel is painted metal so we shall have to see how that stands up to the aggressive Welsh climate. Apart from that small detail we would most definitely recommend them.

The motion sensor offers 120 degrees detection angle at a range of up to 10m can be rotated horizontally through 180 degrees. Well worth trying different vertical angles as this makes a real difference to what does and doesn't trigger the light.

1 | 0 An excellent product. Initially we bought two to light the path to the chickens. So impressed were we that we bought two more to illuminate dark spots on our path. The light is white, and although not as bright as halogen they are as excellent replacements the traditional halogen lights we have. When they go, we will use these as replacements.

The PIR on the Shield will rotate both left and right and up and down, it sounds like you could try pointing the PIR straight down depending on the height of the lights and this would pick up movement from both directions.
